News Arcticles The Times December 03, 2005 Swimmer seeks Antarctic record Lewis Pugh, a British solicitor, is planning three long-distance swims in the Antarctic Ocean. Mr Pugh, 35, holds the record for the most northerly swim, a 1km (0.6 mile) sprint off Spitsbergen in the Arctic Ocean in August. This month he will attempt a 1km swim near Vernadsky in Antarctica in water expected to be below 0C (32F). The record attempt is being sponsored by South Africa’s Sports Science Institute and Polar Star Expeditions, a cruise trip company. |
