TOURS – VOLCANIC ICELAND EXTENSION PROGRAM
Day 1: Upon disembarking M/V Polar Star in Reykjavik, your city tour begins at the harbour and will take in the 19th Century Parliament House, Austurvollur Square, Tjornin Lake, the Hallgrimskirkja Church and spectacular views from the Pearl. After lunch, choose to continue exploring Reykjavik on your own or enjoy an optional three hour whale watching tour.
Day 2: After breakfast, embark on “The Golden Circle tour”, beginning with a visit to the historically significant Thingvellir National Park. This protected area was home to the Old Viking Parliament which first convened in 930. From here, visit the two-tiered Gullfoss Falls, marvel at the amazing hot springs of Geysir, see Kerid, an explosion crater now filled with water and the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi.
Day 3: Today’s journey begins in spectacular fashion with a visit to Glacier Langjökull for breathtaking views of the Icelandic highlands. From there, visit Hraunfosser waterfalls, the historical site of Reykholt and Deildartunguhver, the most powerful geothermal spring in Europe.
Day 4: In the morning, embark on a tour of Peninsula Reykjanes beginning with a visit to Bessastadir, the official residence of the Icelandic President. Travel onto Lake Kleifarvatn, rich in geothermal activity and home to steaming geysers, hot springs and mud pots. Experience this activity for yourself at the famous Blue Lagoon to bathe in the mineral rich geothermal waters before transferring to Keflavik airport for flights home.
