Celebrate the New Year in a very unique way – under the 24-hour sun of the Austral Summer, yet in a Winter Wonderland. On this magical journey explore the World’s largest wilderness with boundless wildlife – see penguins, seals, seabirds and whales in their natural environment. The program also includes visit to historic sites and research stations staffed by an international community. Start your New Year in an incredible way and perhaps take time to reflect on this incredible world we live in.
DAY 1: Wednesday, Dec 29 (Argentina) Embark in Ushuaia.
DAYS 2 & 3: Thursday – Friday, Dec 30 & 31 (At Sea) As the ship steams across the Drake Passage, the program of informative lectures begins and a constant watch for birds and marine wildlife is kept.
DAYS 4 – 6: Saturday – Monday, Jan 1 – 3 (Antarctica) Cruise amongst the islands and in the fjords and bays watching for whales surfacing, seals basking on ice floes and penguin activity along the shores. There is excellent Zodiac cruising in places such as Neko Harbour and Paradise Bay. Landings are planned at historic and wildlife sites such as Petermann Island and Port Lockroy.
DAY 7: Tuesday, Jan 4 (South Shetland Islands) At the top of the Antarctic Peninsula, these islands are well known for penguin rookeries and the black lava sands of Whaler’s Bay on Deception Island.
DAYS 8 & 9: Wednesday – Thursday, Jan 5 & 6 (At Sea) Time at sea is filled with lectures, recaps, watching for wildlife and time to relax.
DAY 10: Friday, Jan 7 (Argentina) Disembark in Ushuaia.
