Classic Antarctic Expedition
Daily Itinerary 10 days /9 nights

PS89-03
December 10 – 19, 2008

It can simply be said – there is no place like it on earth. The Seventh Continent, the Antarctic, is a pristine environment, largely untouched by man and where nature is still in charge. The scenery is breathtaking and an amazing setting for teeming wildlife that endures and indeed thrives in this harsh land of great white expanses, looming mountain peaks and impressive icebergs.

DAY 1: (Argentina) Embark the M/V Polar Star in this delightful small city of Ushuaia and set sail along the Beagle Channel.
DAYS 2 - 3: Heading south, cross the Antarctic Convergence and prepare for the adventures ahead with a lecture program keeping a continual lookout for sea life.
DAYS 4 - 6: (Antarctica) At the peninsula, land excursions and Zodiac cruises are planned to witness life in this dramatic landscape and share this untouched wilderness with penguins, seals, whales and seabirds. We hope to see Gentoo, Adelie and Chinstrap penguins, and there is the possibility to see Fur, Leopard, Weddell and Crabeater seals as well as Minke, Humpback, Orca and other whales. Landings may include sites such as Petermann Island, Port Lockroy, Cierva Cove, Mikkelson, Paradise Bay and Neko Harbour.
DAY 7: (South Shetland Islands) Here spectacular penguin rookeries are inhabited by Chinstrap, Gentoo and Adelie penguins. Of geological note, it is volcanic and 80% covered in permanent ice. Landings are planned at Whaler’s Bay to witness the effects of past volcanic activity on Deception Island as well as Half Moon Island.
DAYS 8 - 9: These days at sea relax, spot wildlife and attend debriefings and a farewell reception.
DAY 10: (Argentina) Back in Ushuaia, disembark after breakfast to begin homeward journeys.
