Here at Polar Star Expeditions, we are committed to creating meaningful and memorable cruise expeditions to remote destinations - alive with the energy and power of untouched nature. This is our mission which is a constant focus in our everyday operation.

We hold the safety of our passengers of the highest importance and accordingly, hire a team who is dedicated in making sure you are safe at all times. At Polar Star Expeditions we believe that safety is the responsibility of all of our staffmembers, from those ashore to our Captain and Crew. We follow a strict Safety Management system, implemented in all areas of operations and comply with the latest ISPS, SOLAS and IMF regulations. You can rest easy each night aboard the Polar Star, knowing that you are in experienced and capable hands.

The fragility of our beautiful planet is something that we all must be aware of and act in ways that protect the world in which we live. Each year, the Polar Star visits some of the most remote and ecologically sensitive areas in the world and we are dedicated in ensuring that we operate in ways that minimizes impact to these environments.

Polar Star Expeditions is a member of IAATO (International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators) and our president, Martin Karlsen, chairs this vital organization. IAATO’s objective is to advocate, promote and practice safe and environmentally responsible private-sector travel to the Antarctic by setting out guidelines and procedures that cover such matters as wildlife watching, disposal of waste and protection of flora and fauna. Polar Star Expeditions is committed to following these guidelines and procedures and as such, have integrated them into our ship and operational management system.

We also belong to AECO (Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators), an organization that has implemented similar principles for operations in the Arctic. We are proud of our commitment to both IAATO and AECO.
